I love having the Psalms that fit with his timeline embedded into the flow of the story. I also found the story of David to be one of the more useful stories in this format because his ‘story’ is pieced through so many books in the Bible. It was nice to have it flow.
The name given by his parents is Solomon yet God named him Jedidiah. However, it doesn’t seem to be used again. Did I miss the point of this double name?
Hi Mary!
Jedidiah is the Anglicized form of a compound word. In Hebrew, Yadid means, “beloved”, and Yah is a shortened form of “Yahweh” or “The Lord”. His name, then means, “Beloved of the Lord” Yadidah. God loved Solomon which predicts Solomon being God’s choice for the next King.
I think it should be mentioned that God’s punishment, or perhaps discipline, in taking the life of David and Bathshiba’s baby, most certainly had an extreme impact on Bathshiba as well. She could have left David, in shame and public disgrace, but stayed with him and they had more children.
